Sojern employees navigate parenthood with flexible work policies.
Becoming a new parent is a transformative and joyous experience, but it can also be a time filled with uncertainties and challenges. At Sojern, we want to alleviate that stress and make the transition as smooth as possible for our team. We’ll delve into the experiences of three Sojern employees who recently became parents, highlighting the support and care they received throughout this process.
We believe that supporting our employees through all stages of life is vital to maintaining a healthy and thriving work culture. Welcoming a new member into the family is a significant milestone. We provide our employees with the resources and flexibility they need, so they can focus on building their families.
When Myla Tutt, marketing director at Sojern, became a new mother, she expressed her appreciation for our approach to parenthood support and how working from home helped her in the early stages of motherhood.
“For me, working from home is absolutely essential–especially as a new parent,” says Myla. “I honestly don’t know how parents managed prior to having this kind of flexibility. Childcare and school is not conducive to a typical 9 to 5 work day. The only way I’ve been able to be successful as a mom and a colleague is because of the flexibility Sojern provides: I’m able to take an hour for a doctor's appointment, or end my work day early and catch up in the evening.”
Sojern recognizes that each employee’s journey into parenthood is unique, and flexibility is crucial to finding the right balance between work and family life. Myla shared her experience of navigating parenthood while working full-time at Sojern.
“Everyone is treated as a responsible adult at Sojern,” says Myla. “What this means is that I’m not being micromanaged, where every hour needs to be accounted for. My team is more than understanding if I have to suddenly take a half day with a sick child. We all trust each other and know that life happens, but we will still get the work done.”
We offer various parental leave options, enabling employees to choose a plan that best suits their needs. Furthermore, Sojern encourages open communication, allowing employees to express their preferences for work arrangements upon their return from leave.
Work commitments with the responsibilities of parenthood can be daunting, but Sojern is dedicated to helping employees integrate both seamlessly. Teesta Raha, senior manager of global PR, expressed how she experienced this work-life integration firsthand after the arrival of her baby.
“With a young baby going into childcare for the first time, you can’t account for the early days of immunity building, regular sicknesses and doctor visits,” says Teesta. “I was confident to return to work because of Sojern offering work-life flexibility and the support from my colleagues at all levels, helping me get up to speed for the time away from the business, but also encouraging me to take the next step in my career growth.”
Sojern’s culture of trust and respect empowers employees to manage their time efficiently, ensuring that they can be present for their families while also excelling in their professional roles.
Beyond the practical aspects of parental leave and flexible work arrangements, what sets us apart is the sense of community and genuine care among our employees. Hallie Zitek, client success manager at Sojern, emphasized the camaraderie she experienced during the new phase of life.
“There have been moms and dads that have gone through the exact same experience, and it’s been amazing being able to ask questions,” says Hallie. “New parents have an incredible amount of support from Sojern and our colleagues. The fact that we can stagger our hours, that our child can be home while we are working, and honestly just that we are not expected to be perfect.”
Parenthood is an incredible journey, and supporting our employees during this time is an essential part of our commitment to their well-being and success. Our culture and flexibility make Sojern an ideal workplace for those looking to embrace both their professional and parental roles.
